Parliament has unanimously accepted a new bill targeting gang-related crimes, proposing life imprisonment and fines up to MVR 10 million for serious offences. The legislation, which will replace existing acts with stricter provisions, establishes a comprehensive framework for combating organised crime, including drug trafficking, human trafficking, and violent crimes. The bill emphasises rehabilitation and protection of minors, with particularly severe penalties for recruiting children into criminal groups.
