Island Aviation Services Limited (IASL), the operator of Maldivian, the national airline of the Maldives, has successfully obtained the EASA Part 145 approval certification, marking a significant milestone in the country’s aviation maintenance sector.

This achievement makes IASL the first European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) Part 145 holder in the Maldives, further reinforcing its reputation for excellence in aircraft maintenance.

The EASA Part 145 approval allows IASL to provide direct maintenance services for European-registered aircraft, significantly expanding its service capabilities.

IASL has long been a trusted provider of maintenance support for international airlines operating at Velana International Airport and is now positioned to extend its services to a broader range of global carriers.

The approval was expedited under the national airline reform and modernisation agenda led by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu. Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation, Mohamed Ameen, highlighted the achievement as a major step forward for the Maldivian aviation sector, crediting the Government’s leadership in strengthening and expanding industry capabilities.

This certification represents IASL Engineering’s 12th Part 145 approval, adding to its existing maintenance approvals from the Maldives Civil Aviation Authority and 11 foreign civil aviation authorities.

According to Mohamed Hassan, Director of Engineering Operations, the certification will support future airline and passenger growth, benefiting IASL’s current airline partners by ensuring certified line maintenance services and on-site support.

He noted that the approval enhances IASL’s ability to promptly resolve aircraft issues and opens career opportunities for Maldivian aircraft maintenance engineers, mechanics, and other aviation professionals.

IASL Engineering currently provides comprehensive maintenance support for a wide range of aircraft, including the Airbus A320 Family, A330, A350, and Boeing 737, 767, 777, and 787, as well as the Cessna 150/152F, Tecnam P2006T, DHC-6, DHC-8, and ATR-42/72. The division also offers line maintenance services to more than 30 international airlines, reinforcing its role as a major service provider in the region.

With the EASA Part 145 certification, IASL is now well-positioned to meet the growing demands of the aviation sector and attract new airline partners seeking high-quality maintenance services.
