A font based on the handwriting of former President Al-Ustaz Maumoon Abdul Gayoom is set to be released, officials announced yesterday.

Former President Maumoon, renowned for his elegant penmanship in both Dhivehi and Arabic, developed a distinctive flowing style that became familiar to many during his administration. Several Arabic inscriptions at the Islamic Centre were personally calligraphed by the former President.

The Maumoon Foundation announced that the font, named ‘Maumoon,’ was developed in collaboration with Akuru Type. The official launch will take place during a special ceremony at the Male' Art Gallery on February 21. Following this, a special exhibition showcasing the font will be held at the gallery on February 22, open to the public from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.

This marks the first time a font has been created based on the handwriting of any individual who has served as President of the Maldives.
