Minister of Islamic Affairs, Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed, has announced plans to construct new mosques on six islands, with work set to begin after Ramadan.

The project, fully funded by the Government, will see the development of modern mosques designed to accommodate local communities while preserving the Maldivian heritage.

The mosques will be built in Alifu Alifu Rasdhoo, Alifu Dhaalu Fenfushi, Faafu Feeali, Gaafu Dhaalu Madaveli, Haa Alifu Baarah, and Thaa Veymandoo. The Minister also shared architectural designs and drawings, which have been recently completed by Riyan Private Limited.

According to the Islamic Ministry, the mosques will be equipped with solar power and air conditioning. Each mosque will also include classrooms for Quran studies, providing a dedicated space for religious education.

Additionally, the mosques will vary in size, with capacities ranging from 300 to 700 people.

The Islamic Minister emphasised that the designs of the mosques will reflect the history, culture, and environment of the Maldives.
