The Ministry of Cities, Local Government and Public Works is undertaking an initiative to compile detailed profiles of each island in the Maldives, reflecting their unique characteristics and available resources.
Minister Adam Shareef Umar announced the project during a press conference at the President’s Office today, highlighting the significance of documenting the distinct features of the country's islands.
According to the minister, many people are interested in understanding the differences between the islands, particularly in terms of culture, language variations, and available resources. The initiative aims to consolidate this information into individual profiles, allowing for easier access and a comprehensive understanding of each island’s distinct identity.
The minister emphasised that each island within the country has its own cultural and linguistic traits, as well as varying resources, making them unique. Recognising this diversity, the Government is working to ensure that these aspects are systematically recorded and made accessible in a structured format.
However, the minister acknowledged that compiling such detailed profiles is a time-consuming process. Efforts are currently underway to determine the most effective approach to gathering and presenting the necessary data.
