The Ministry of Homeland Security and Technology has reported that 6,076 foreigners have been deported to their countries of origin as part of ongoing efforts to tackle illegal immigration and related crimes.
The Homeland Ministry, in collaboration with Maldives Immigration and the Maldives Police Service, is working to track down and deport foreigners involved in illegal trade and criminal activities, ensuring they are not given further opportunities to remain in the country.
According to a statement shared on the Maldives Immigration's official X account, two foreigners were arrested on Wednesday from five small markets in Malé during an operation targeting undocumented immigrants.
As part of the nationwide crackdown, Immigration has launched door-to-door inspections to identify foreigners living without valid visas. A special operation is also underway to monitor workplaces and residences frequently occupied by undocumented immigrants.
Authorities reported that 1,297 cases have been submitted through the Immigration Watch online platform, with only 11 cases still pending resolution.
Meanwhile, as part of Operation Kurangi, biometric data of 43,294 foreigners has been collected. The Ministry has urged employers to ensure that all required biometric updates are completed before March 1, 2025.
With raids now being conducted almost daily, authorities have significantly expanded its operations to track down illegal immigrants.
