Fenaka Corporation has installed and serviced a 1.8 megawatt generator in Addu City to improve electricity supply to Hithadhoo and its neighbouring islands.

The generator was transported to the city on Tuesday as part of ongoing efforts to address frequent power outages. Fenaka, in a statement on X, reaffirmed that resolving Addu’s electricity issues remains a top priority, particularly with the increasing demand during Ramadan and ongoing development projects.

Power disruptions have been a longstanding concern for residents, with daily outages impacting businesses and households. Fenaka's Managing Director Mohamed Najah acknowledged the issue and assured that steps were being taken to mitigate the crisis.

Fenaka stated that three generators supplying electricity to the city had sustained severe damage. While one has been repaired and is operational, the second is expected to be restored by the end of the week, and the third will be repaired once spare parts arrive from abroad.

As part of a long-term solution, the Government is expediting the stalled construction of a 32MW powerhouse in Addu City. Fenaka aims to complete the project within one-and-a-half years.
