Member of Parliament for Baarah Constituency, Ibrahim Shujau, has stated that President Dr Mohamed Muizzu is committed to a governance approach that prioritises bringing services closer to the people and ensuring that public concerns are heard and addressed.
Speaking to MMTV during the People’s National Congress (PNC) Maahefun on Friday, Shujau outlined several ongoing initiatives aimed at strengthening various sectors under the Government’s development agenda.
Shujau highlighted that religious affairs remain a key focus of the current Administration. He noted that the Ministry of Islamic Affairs is actively working to facilitate Hajj travel for 1,000 Maldivians during this term. Additionally, preparations are underway to welcome the month of Ramadan, with the Ministry planning a series of religious activities and the construction of new mosques on various islands. He mentioned that agreements for the mosque projects are expected to be finalised within the first week of Ramadan.
Addressing concerns about electricity infrastructure, Shujau noted that when the Administration took office, many power plants across the Maldives were in poor condition due to a lack of maintenance and servicing. With Ramadan being a period when many people travel to the islands, he assured that Fenaka Corporation is working to improve the electricity situation in preparation for the holiday season.
Shujau further emphasised that the Government remains close to the people, stating that it will continue to govern by listening to public concerns and adapting policies accordingly. He stressed that Administration will not shy away from public engagement.
Regarding Ramadan assistance, Shujau recalled that the Government provided staple foods last year and noted that this year, the distribution of canned tuna has been criticised by the opposition. Despite this, he asserted that the Maldivian people recognise the Government’s compassion and its efforts to assist citizens in meaningful ways.
