The Maldives Green Fund closed 2024 with a balance of MVR 1.6 billion, marking an increase from MVR 1.1 billion at the start of the year, driven by substantial inflows and expenditures. The highest deposit was recorded in March 2024 at MVR 113.8 million, while December saw the highest expenditure at MVR 172.4 million, primarily funding environmental initiatives. To further boost environmental funding, the Government revised green tax rates effective January 1, 2025, estimating an additional MVR 963.6 million in revenue for the current year.
