The Road Development Corporation (RDC) has been awarded the contract to construct a new 50-bed building for Dhaalu Atoll Hospital, with the project set to be completed within 18 months.

A signing ceremony was held at RDC headquarters, where State Minister Ahmed Qasim signed the agreement on behalf of the Ministry of Health, while Deputy Managing Director Mohamed Asbah Ali Naseer signed on behalf of RDC.

The new hospital facility will include specialised medical services, such as a mammography facility, dental OPG, an orthopaedic theatre, and private rooms. As an Atoll Hospital, it will also feature a dedicated training facility for both hospital staff and employees working in the atoll’s healthcare sector.

Given Kudahuvadhoo's airport access, an emergency ER will be established to handle medical emergencies efficiently. Additionally, the hospital will include a flu clinic and an isolation facility, ensuring uninterrupted operations during disease outbreaks, such as COVID-19. Piped oxygen, medical air, and suction will also be installed in all hospital beds to improve patient care.

To support sustainability and operational efficiency, a solar PV system will be installed at the hospital to reduce energy costs. The facility will also be equipped with a power backup system, a waste management system, and a hospital-grade industrial laundry setup to maintain uninterrupted operations. Furthermore, a medical oxygen plant will also be established.

The Ministry of Health stated that with the completion of the new hospital building, space constraints will be resolved, and the facility will be able to provide all essential medical services required for an Atoll Hospital. The expanded infrastructure will improve access to healthcare services for both Kudahuvadhoo residents and neighbouring islands.
