The Government will provide discounts on electricity and water bills during the month of Ramadan, continuing the initiative implemented last year, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has confirmed.

Speaking to the residents in Dhaalu Kudahuvadhoo, the President reaffirmed his Administration’s commitment to easing household expenses during Ramadan. He dismissed claims that the relief measures were being offset by the Government’s distribution of fish cases to households, describing such allegations as misleading.

President Dr Muizzu referenced a previous statement made in Mathiveri on December 8, where he had assured that discounts on utility bills would continue this year. He criticised the spread of misinformation and urged the public to be cautious of false narratives aimed at distorting facts.

The President also addressed previous claims about reductions in fish case distributions and logistical challenges in Male’, stating that these concerns had been resolved. He noted that similar rumours were now being spread regarding utility bill discounts, cautioning against efforts to create unnecessary fear and confusion.

The Government has reiterated its commitment to supporting citizens during Ramadan, ensuring that essential services remain affordable while maintaining other social welfare initiatives.
