President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced that the housing units project in Kudahuvadhoo will be implemented in a way that allows individuals to build three-room houses on private land.
During his ongoing visit to Dhaalu Atoll, he addressed the people of Kudahuvadhoo as his first stop, highlighting the Government's approach to the 500-unit housing project in the area, which is being developed as an urban center.
The project will include an option for residents to construct three-room houses on their own land, with a designated portion of the 500 units allocated for this purpose. The remaining units will be developed as flats. The initiative aims to ensure that those opting for private land construction receive appropriate financial allocations, while the rest of the project continues with flat construction.
Since the housing project is designed to include three-room units, only houses with three rooms will be permitted on private plots, maintaining consistency in the development plan. This arrangement is intended to provide suitable homes for new families and aligns with the Government's broader vision for urban housing development.
As part of the Administration’s housing initiatives, the Government will facilitate loans of up to MVR 3 million for residents of Kudahuvadhoo. This scheme, launched in collaboration with the Ministry of Housing and the Bank of Maldives, aims to support home construction in the area.
Taking into consideration that Dhaalu Vaanee residents have relocated to Kudahuvadhoo, more housing projects will be considered for the island if residents from other islands relocate to Kudahuvadhoo. This effort is part of the broader plan to accommodate population growth and enhance urban development in the region.
