President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has pledged to complete the construction of the Dhaalu Kudahuvadhoo Commercial Port within his current term, reaffirming his commitment to regional development.

The announcement was made during his visit to Kudahuvadhoo, as part of his ongoing tour of all inhabited islands in Dhaalu Atoll.

During the visit, an agreement was signed to develop the Kudahuvadhoo Commercial Port, which the President described as a regionally viable initiative. He assured residents that the port would be fully operational within this term, enhancing trade and economic opportunities in the region.

The President also highlighted the Government’s partnership with the Bank of Maldives (BML) to improve banking accessibility. On Sunday, the groundbreaking ceremony for the new BML branch building was held in Kudahuvadhoo. As part of efforts to expand financial services, the President assured that USD ATM services would be introduced on the island by the end of 2025.

Focusing on infrastructure development, the President emphasised the importance of the harbour expansion project, stating that it is critical for fishermen, traders, and the general public. He assured residents that work on the project would begin soon and be completed to meet the community’s expectations.

Additionally, the President announced that WAMCO would begin waste management services on the island by July 2025, addressing a key concern of residents. He also confirmed that the long-awaited indoor sports complex would be commissioned within the year.

Regarding housing challenges, President Dr Muizzu acknowledged the difficulties in constructing homes on scattered plots across the island. As part of the 500-housing unit project in Kudahuvadhoo, he announced that applications would soon open for the construction of three-bedroom houses on private land, while the remaining units would be built as flats.

The President also addressed the success of Kudahuvadhoo’s population relocation efforts, noting that while the process had been largely effective, minor issues had emerged. He reassured the community that the Government would swiftly address these concerns.

Reaffirming his vision for regional development, the President reiterated his commitment to transforming seven islands, including Kudahuvadhoo, into high-level urban centres. He assured the public that this was not just a political pledge but a concrete plan backed by determination and confidence.

Kudahuvadhoo is one of seven urban centres being developed across different regions of the Maldives under the Government’s decentralisation strategy.
