President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has assured the people of Dhaalu Maaen’boodhoo that the much-anticipated land reclamation project will commence soon.

Speaking to residents of Maaen’boodhoo during his three-day visit to Dhaalu Atoll, the President stated that the primary purpose of his visit to the island was to personally assure residents that the land reclamation project would move forward as promised.

The President noted that the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) is currently underway, with the Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) working closely to complete the necessary procedures. He stated that once the EIA is completed, the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) is ready to immediately begin the reclamation work.

The land reclamation project will cover 30 hectares, with two hectares designated as a separate island, as promised by the President during his Presidential campaign.

The President highlighted that land scarcity is the biggest challenge in Maaen’boodhoo, and the Government is actively identifying island-specific needs to implement solutions. He assured residents that once the project begins, the work will progress at a rapid pace.

Beyond land reclamation, the President announced that key infrastructure projects, including the water and sewerage system and the multi-purpose hall of the school, will continue as planned. He confirmed that the multi-purpose hall will be completed by May 2025.

Additionally, he pledged that all stalled projects across the island will be resumed by this month and the next, with ministries and state-owned companies actively working to ensure progress.

As part of his visit to Maaen’boodhoo, the President also inaugurated a new health centre building. While the building has been opened for administrative purposes, he acknowledged space constraints within the health facility and assured that further expansions and improvements will be made to enhance healthcare services.

The President also announced plans to establish a football stadium, a volleyball court, and a fitness recreation centre within the next two years.
