Individuals who were previously allocated land plots in Gulhifalhu areas that are yet to be reclaimed will now receive plots from the already reclaimed areas, with registrations set to be completed within two to three months, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced.
Speaking to Meedhoo residents as part of his tour of Dhaalu Atoll, the President clarified that Gulhifalhu land use plan has been amended. He assured that marking, demarcation, and handover processes would be finalised within the designated timeframe, except for plots allocated in areas designated for bridge construction.
The President added that the previous administration’s agreement for land reclamation in Giraavaru Falhu will be cancelled and the Government will assume responsibility for the project, moving forward. He assured the citizens that once completed, land would be allocated to those who had previously been promised plots in the area.
President Dr Muizzu also outlined plans for Uthuru Thila Falhu, confirming that 125 hectares of the lagoon would be reclaimed this year, with completion expected in 2026 to address ongoing housing shortages. Additionally, he stated that land reclamation in Hulhumalé lagoon is progressing on schedule to be completed by July 2025.
Regarding the flat allocation list, the President assured that pending issues have been resolved and confirmed that the final list would be published by the end of the week.
