Maldivian fishermen will soon receive Ramadan allowances as part of the Government's efforts to expand financial benefits to this vital sector, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu announced on Monday night.

The President revealed these plans while addressing residents of Dhaalu Meedhoo during his ongoing visit to Dhaalu Atoll. He specifically highlighted that providing Ramadan allowances to fishermen is a priority for his Administration, with preparatory work already underway.

As an initial step toward implementing this benefit, the President noted that a registry of fishermen has already been compiled, laying the groundwork for the allowance distribution system.

The announcement comes as the Government has successfully arranged Ramadan allowances for Women's Development Committee (WDC) members, fulfilling one of the Presidential pledges. The necessary legal amendments have been ratified, and the Ministry of Finance and Planning has instructed councils to transfer these allowances before the end of this week.

"I promised WDC members that I would arrange for them to receive Ramadan allowances. There were legal barriers, so I said I would resolve it through Parliament. That has now been arranged, and Ramadan allowances are being transferred to WDC members," President Dr Muizzu said.

The President also expressed his desire to further expand Ramadan allowances to professionals in other fields in the future.
