Parliament has confirmed its confidence in Minister of Homeland Security and Technology, Ali Ihusaan, defeating a no-confidence motion brought forward by the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP).
During today's parliamentary session, a decisive 64 members voted in support of Minister Ihusaan, with just 11 members voting against him.
The motion, submitted with signatures from 12 opposition MDP members, alleged misuse of sensitive personal information stored at the Department of National Registration (DNR).
The opposition claimed that information appearing in forms submitted to the Elections Commission could only have been accessed through the DNR database.
In their motion, the MDP argued that Ihusaan's continuation in office could potentially obstruct the criminal investigation, even suggesting his position posed a national security threat.
Minister Ihusaan, who assumed office just fourteen months ago, continues to implement significant reforms across his ministry's jurisdiction.
