The Business Centre Corporation (BCC) has initiated a nationwide cultural event to formally invite islands across the Maldives to participate in the Dhiveheenge Ufehduntherikamuge Maurazu, scheduled to take place from 23 to 31 May, 2025.

The event, which highlights traditional craftsmanship and local artistry, was inaugurated in Kaafu Gulhi, with the first invitation handed over to the Male’ Atoll Council.

The invitation ceremony, known as Bilethaa, revives an old Maldivian tradition of delivering invitations through cultural activities. The initiative will see invitations extended from one island to another, fostering engagement and participation. The first invitation was presented by Minister of State for Economic Development and Trade Abdulla Siyaz during a special ceremony in Gulhi.

According to the BCC, the Dhiveheenge Ufehduntherikamuge Maurazu will be the largest event of its kind in the Maldives, bringing together local artisans and businesses to showcase their creative industries. The exhibition is being organised under the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade, with the support of Government agencies and private sector partners.

The invitation process will continue across the country, with the aim of reaching all islands by the end of Ramadan. The BCC expects that by the first week of Ramadan, all atolls will have received their invitations.

The exhibition was first proposed by the Union Cabinet in May 2024 to promote traditional arts and expand opportunities for local businesses.
