Passport services have officially commenced in Shaviyani Atoll on February 25, 2025.

The initiative was launched by Controller General of Immigration Mohamed Shamaan Waheed win Shaviyani Fonadhoo, allowing residents to apply for and collect passports without travelling to Malé.

Maldives Immigration confirmed that passport applications submitted online can now be processed and collected from designated atoll service centres. The Government aims to extend the service to all atolls by the end of the year, alongside plans to introduce national ID card services across the country.

In addition to atolls, the service has been introduced in high-population areas, including Hulhumalé Phase 1, Phase 2, and Vilimalé.

Ensuring that national ID card and passport services are accessible to citizens across the Maldives is a key policy of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s Administration. As part of this initiative, the Government launched the expansion of these nationwide on November 16, 2024.
