President Dr Muizzu assures commitment to decentralisation during South Nilandhe Atoll tour

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has reaffirmed his commitment to delivering benefits to the public through decentralisation.
His remarks came during his official visit to Dhaalu Hulhudheli, marking the final stop in the tour of the islands within the atoll.
During the visit, the President inaugurated completed development projects and launched several new initiatives across multiple islands. Addressing the residents of Hulhudheli, he emphasised that the primary goal of his tour was to engage directly with communities and address their concerns. He reiterated that he remains committed to fulfilling the promises made during the election campaign, with his Administration now actively working towards their implementation.
As part of the Government’s broader decentralisation strategy, the President noted that his discussions with local councils were aimed at identifying operational challenges and finding effective solutions. He underscored his intention to ensure that the benefits of decentralisation reach all citizens, reflecting his Administration’s focus on empowering local communities.
The President also outlined ongoing efforts to improve financial accessibility, stating that the Bank of Maldives (BML) and the Government are collaborating to install ATMs on all islands within the atoll. Dhaalu Atoll is now the first atoll where all inhabited islands have ATM services available. This initiative is expected to enhance banking services for residents and support local economic activities.
Acknowledging the land constraints faced by Hulhudheli, he confirmed that the largest land reclamation project for the area will commence following the completion of the necessary Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA). He assured that the process would move forward as soon as the required assessments are concluded.
Additionally, he addressed local infrastructure concerns, including the completion of Hulhudheli School’s multi-purpose hall and the resolution of waste management issues on the island.
