President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has entrusted The Waste Management Corporation Limited (WAMCO) with the responsibility of handling waste disposal operations on the island.

As part of this initiative, an agreement was formally signed during the President’s three-day official visit to South Nilandhe Atoll.

The signing took place at a ceremony in Dhaalu Hulhudheli, where the Minister of Tourism and Environment, Thoriq Ibrahim represented the ministry, while WAMCO’s Managing Director, Mujthaba Jaleel, signed on behalf of the company. This initiative aligns with the Administration’s broader commitment to addressing waste management challenges in local communities.

During his address to residents following the signing, the President highlighted that the establishment of a waste management centre in Hulhudheli was among the commitments made during his election campaign. He assured that the project would commence within the next four months, aiming to improve waste disposal infrastructure and environmental sustainability in the region.

In addition to the waste management initiative, the President reaffirmed his Administration’s commitment to fulfilling other promises made to the people of Hulhudheli. He stated that efforts to implement these projects would begin as soon as possible, with a focus on timely completion to meet the needs of the community.
