The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has stated that the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) is conducting a criminal investigation into three suspended Supreme Court judges.

The JSC decided today to suspend three Supreme Court judges – Azmiralda Zahir, Mahaz Ali Zahir, and Husnu Al Suood – shortly before a scheduled hearing on temporarily halting the implementation of a constitutional amendment that would result in Members of Parliament losing their seats.

According to the JSC, the decision to temporarily remove the three judges from their duties was made after the ACC informed the commission that a criminal investigation involving them is underway.

The commission has the authority to suspend any judge who is arrested or detained on suspicion of a criminal offence, or if an investigative authority notifies the JSC that it has initiated an investigation into a case involving a judge.
