President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to strengthening the decentralised governance system, ensuring continuous progress in local empowerment.

In a message on X to mark Decentralisation Day, the President pledged to maintain direct engagement with island councils and communities, personally assessing local conditions and driving meaningful reforms. As part of this commitment, he aims to visit every inhabited island twice during his presidency.

On this occasion, Minister of Cities, Local Government, and Public Works, Adam Shareef Umar, also underscored the Government’s dedication to enhancing council capabilities.

He outlined plans to empower councils as self-sufficient and reliable institutions by strengthening their financial resources, improving infrastructure, and creating dedicated workspaces for councillors and Women's Development Committees.
