The Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) has established a new platform for making charitable donations through their online portal VaaruPay.
The service was officially launched by the Minister of Islamic Affairs, Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed. Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Dr Shaheem remarked that Maldivians have always been eager to contribute to good causes and acknowledged the generous assistance that Maldivians provide to Muslims in need around the world.
He emphasised that just as Maldivians donate to various causes abroad, it is equally important to contribute to worthy causes within the Maldives. He highlighted important initiatives such as building mosques in different islands, establishing Quran classes, and setting up libraries.
In his address at the ceremony, Commissioner General of Taxation of MIRA, Hassan Zareer, expressed his pleasure that this initiative became a reality in such a short time, describing it as a very important project carried out under the Minister's foresight.
In addition to mosque construction and establishing Quran teaching centres, many other charitable causes can now be supported through VaaruPay.
