First Lady Sajida Mohamed has inaugurated dialysis services at Amina Dhiyo Health Centre in Haa Alif Ihavandhoo, marking an expansion of healthcare services in the atoll.
The facility, now operational, aims to ease the burden on patients who previously had to travel long distances for treatment.
The First Lady highlighted the importance of decentralised healthcare, noting the challenges faced by patients travelling to Malé for essential treatments. She reiterated the Government’s commitment to expanding dialysis facilities nationwide, ensuring better accessibility for those in need.
At the inauguration ceremony, Health Minister Abdulla Nazim stated that the Government is working to establish dialysis services in nine additional centres across the country. He also announced that physician services would soon be introduced in Ihavandhoo to strengthen medical support for residents.
During her visit, the First Lady also officiated the groundbreaking ceremony for "Futtaru Ufaa," a community park dedicated to women. Initiated by the Women’s Development Committee (WDC) of Ihavandhoo, the project aims to provide a dedicated recreational space for women on the island.
Following the inauguration, she toured the dialysis centre, where a patient began treatment immediately. The facility is now fully equipped with medical staff and resources to provide continuous care.
