President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced plans to redevelop Sultan Park, introducing new recreational facilities and modern technology while incorporating elements of Maldivian heritage.
The park, which was previously under the care of Malé City Council, will now be managed by the Government as part of efforts to enhance public spaces in the capital.
Speaking at the inauguration of the Presidential Jetty, President Dr Muizzu stated that the park had been neglected and would undergo significant upgrades within the next six months. The redevelopment will introduce new sports and entertainment facilities, including bowling, alongside interactive learning areas designed for children and youth. The initiative aims to provide a space for families and residents of Malé City to enjoy leisure activities in a well-maintained environment.
Sultan Park was originally designed during President Dr Muizzu’s tenure as Housing Minister under former President Abdulla Yameen’s administration. At the time, it was known as Rasrani Park and included a Snow Park, which has since been closed. The redevelopment will focus on preserving Maldivian identity while modernising the park’s offerings, making it a key recreational hub in the city.
