Gaafu Alifu Gemanafushi has officially inaugurated a new ice plant, marking a significant advancement for the local fishing industry.

The opening ceremony was attended by the Minister of Fisheries and Ocean Resources, Ahmed Shiyam, along with other distinguished guests.

The facility is expected to enhance ice production, thereby improving the preservation and storage of fish—an essential component of Gemanafushi’s economy. Local officials and community representatives welcomed the initiative, recognising its importance in strengthening the fisheries sector.

The newly established ice plant is anticipated to provide local fishermen with a consistent supply of ice, ensuring improved fish quality for market distribution and contributing to the region’s economic growth.
