The Maldives will begin observing Ramadan 1446 on Saturday, March 1, 2025, following an official announcement by the Ministry of Islamic Affairs.

The decision was based on verified moon sightings in several Islamic countries and astronomical calculations confirming the crescent moon’s visibility after sunset.

A moon sighting verification ceremony was held at the Islamic Centre, after which the Ministry confirmed the beginning of the holy month. The resolution issued stated that the moon had been sighted in other Muslim nations, meeting the legal requirements for the start of Ramadan in the Maldives.

In a statement, Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed urged the public to observe Ramadan with devotion and engage in acts of worship throughout the month. The Maldives follows a combination of local observations and reports from major Islamic countries to determine the Islamic calendar.
