The Male’ Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC) has announced a discount on water bills for the month of Ramadan, ensuring that household charges do not exceed the average usage in other months.

The initiative follows a directive from President Dr Mohamed Muizzu and marks the first time such a discount has been introduced during the fasting month.

According to MWSC, the discount will be applied if the water bill for April 2025 exceeds the average amount billed in the previous nine months, excluding February, March, and April 2024. If the excess amount is less than 10 per cent of the total bill, MWSC will increase the discount to ensure a minimum reduction of 10 per cent. Customers whose April bills are lower than their average usage will also receive a 10 per cent discount. Additionally, newly registered customers receiving their first bill in April 2025 will be eligible for the same reduction.
