The Government has launched ‘AguMagu,’ an online portal designed to monitor and display essential food prices in one place.

The initiative, developed under the guidance of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, aims to enhance price transparency and stability, particularly during Ramadan.

Minister of Economic Development and Trade Mohamed Saeed inaugurated the portal during the ‘Roadha Thayyaaru’ forum on Friday night. The Ministry confirmed that the platform provides consumers with access to the most affordable prices in the market.

The portal allows users to compare food prices across various stores and find the best deals. All listed items meet quality standards set by Maldivian authorities and international organisations. The Ministry assured that the platform will be continuously updated with the latest prices. Currently, data is gathered from the Malé area, including both phases of Hulhumalé, with plans to expand coverage nationwide.

During the launch, Minister Saeed outlined upcoming improvements, including a feature allowing businesses to upload their own prices. The Government is also considering involving island councils in maintaining regional pricing information.

"This platform offers citizens a simple and reliable way to check food prices, which is its greatest benefit," said Minister Saeed.

At the time of launch, the Government was already monitoring over 140 essential food items. In collaboration with the state-owned State Trading Organisation (STO), efforts are underway to stabilise prices and prevent sudden hikes. STO has increased its stock of key food items and secured adequate supplies to prevent shortages. The Government is also working to expand storage capacity for essential goods.

With AguMagu, consumers can now access real-time food prices, enabling them to make informed purchasing decisions while ensuring affordability during Ramadan and beyond.
