The Maldives Racing Association (RAM) has secured membership in the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA), marking a significant step in the development of motorsports in the country.
The membership was confirmed through a vote at the FIA’s Annual General Meeting held in Rwanda on December 13, 2024.
With this recognition, RAM gains access to international expertise, resources, and development programmes aimed at enhancing safety standards and infrastructure for motorsports in the Maldives. The membership also grants eligibility for Maldivian racers to compete in FIA-sanctioned international events and participate in global initiatives to promote road safety and sustainable energy use in motorsports.
The association stated that the membership will support efforts to establish dedicated motorsports venues, including racing tracks and training centres, to provide the necessary infrastructure for the sport. Additionally, RAM plans to collaborate with local authorities to implement road safety awareness campaigns and offer specialised training for aspiring motorsports athletes.
President of RAM, Mohamed Shamil, highlighted that joining the FIA opens new opportunities for the Maldivian motorsports community, enabling the implementation of global best practices and standards. The recognition is expected to contribute to the long-term development of the sport, fostering local talent and positioning the Maldives in the international motorsports arena.
