The Government plans to introduce amendments to the Penal Code next week aimed at strengthening investigations into corruption and unjust enrichment within state agencies. The announcement was made on President Dr.Mohamed Muizzu's official X account, on Thursday.

The proposed amendment will specifically revise Section 515 of the Penal Code, streamlining the process for investigating cases of unjust enrichment. This change will apply not only to public servants but also to high-ranking officials such as the President, Ministers, Members of Parliament, and Judges, including those who have previously held public office.

These amendments are intended to address the current challenges faced in prosecuting corruption cases, thereby enhancing accountability within state institutions. By facilitating investigations into unjust enrichment, the Government aims to foster transparency and integrity in public service, reinforcing its commitment to combat corruption effectively.

As the Government prepares to present these amendments, it underscores the importance of robust legal frameworks in promoting ethical governance and safeguarding public resources. The upcoming discussions in Parliament are anticipated to generate significant attention as the nation seeks to improve its mechanisms for preventing and addressing corruption.
