The Maldives–Sri Lanka Business Forum has been held in Colombo, bringing together investors from both countries to explore business and investment opportunities in the Maldives.
The forum, which marks the tenth of its kind, was attended by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu and Sri Lanka’s Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya, along with more than 300 participants, including investors and business representatives from the Maldives and Sri Lanka.
During the event, participants were briefed on investment prospects across key sectors such as tourism, fisheries and agriculture, as well as major development initiatives planned in the Maldives. These included the Sustainable Township Investment Project, the Rasmalé project and the planned port development in Thilafushi.
Officials noted that the forum forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen economic cooperation between the two countries and attract foreign investment into the Maldivian economy. A similar forum was held in the Maldives during the Sri Lankan President’s visit last year.
The Maldives has been conducting such forums internationally to promote investment opportunities, with previous events held in countries including China, the United Arab Emirates, India, Singapore and the United Kingdom.
