Police report decline in theft cases in February

The Maldives Police Service has reported a decline in theft cases in February 2025, with 196 cases recorded.
This reflects a 28.5 per cent decrease from January 2025, when 274 cases were reported.
According to police statistics, a total of 882 cases were reported in February, with road accidents being the most frequently reported incidents. 293 road accidents were recorded, making it the leading category of reported cases.
After road accidents and thefts, drug-related cases ranked third, with 119 cases reported, followed by 87 cases of lost personal property. Other notable cases included 16 reports of robbery, 12 cases of sexual assault, and 15 cases of domestic violence.
In the first two months of 2025, 528 road accidents and 470 thefts have been reported, making them the most frequently recorded incidents so far this year.
