President Dr Mohamed Muizzu met with representatives of the Maldives Senior Citizens Association at the President’s Office on March 4, to discuss the revival and enhancement of the Isravvehinge Naadhee and broader issues affecting senior citizens.
During the meeting, the association’s representatives expressed their appreciation for the President’s decision to reopen the Isravvehinge Naadhee and explored strategies to improve its operations while encouraging greater participation in senior citizen programmes. They also raised concerns about the challenges faced by non-governmental organisations (NGOs) such as the Maldives Senior Citizens Association, particularly regarding the difficulty of securing office space for their activities.
The President reaffirmed his commitment to supporting NGOs and acknowledged their crucial role in national development. He reiterated that his manifesto included plans to construct an office complex to accommodate various organisations, assuring that the project would proceed within the Government's structured procedures and budgetary framework.
The discussion also covered broader societal concerns, with members of the association emphasising the importance of fostering a more cohesive and civilised society. They expressed their willingness to contribute their knowledge and experience for the nation’s benefit. In response, President Dr Muizzu highlighted the Government’s ongoing initiatives to strengthen the country’s social fabric and assured the association that the administration would actively work towards addressing the issues raised during the meeting.
