The Director General of the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Abdul Azeez Ismail, has reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to fostering a generation of youth actively engaged in religious affairs.

Speaking on MMTV’s Bodu Khabaru programme, Abdul Azeez stated that the Ministry of Islamic Affairs prioritises developing young individuals who will take leadership roles in religious activities.

As part of this effort, Minister of Islamic Affairs, Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed, personally met with young Hafizes to identify outstanding candidates to lead Taraweeh prayers during Ramadan. Following this selection process, five of the most exceptional Hafizes have been given the honour of leading Taraweeh prayers in the two largest mosques in Malé City.

Abdul Azeez highlighted that this initiative has brought great satisfaction to the public, as worshippers appreciate hearing Maldivian youth during prayers.

The Director General also spoke about the Noorul Azan competition, an event organised by the Ministry to train and promote young individuals in calling the Azan. He noted that several participants who achieved significant success in the competition have been given the opportunity to call the Azan in major mosques.

Additionally, Abdul Azeez praised Zuvaan Khatheebun, a youth preacher development programme, calling it one of the most successful initiatives implemented by the Government. He assured that this programme will continue in the future.
