Fenaka Corporation has announced plans to transport another 1.8MW generator to Addu City in the coming week to help resolve ongoing power outages affecting the city's adjoining islands.

The disruptions have been linked to issues with generators at the Central Power Station, which supplies electricity to these areas.

According to Fenaka, the primary cause of the crisis is the lack of regular maintenance for the generators at the station. Last month, the company had already moved a 1.8MW generator to Addu City to address the issue; however, additional generator failures prevented the power load from being maintained, leading to continued outages.

Speaking to news platforms, Fenaka Corporation Managing Director Mohamed Najah explained that efforts were ongoing to tackle the issue. He clarified that the shortage was not due to a lack of spare parts, as all necessary components were already available in Addu.

He added that the problem lay with the generators themselves, which were currently being repaired. Fenaka was working on bringing more generators to the city, including an additional 1.8MW unit expected to arrive within the next week.

Najah also noted that Fenaka was actively working on a long-term solution to Addu City's electricity issues. A proposal is set to be submitted to the relevant authorities, with the aim of resolving the crisis within the year.

He further stated that once the two new generators were operational, power supply stability would improve, allowing the company to shift its focus to overhauling existing engines. He emphasised that spare parts were available for the damaged generators and that the overhaul process would begin soon. Najah also stressed the importance of ensuring an uninterrupted power supply, particularly during Ramadan, and highlighted that the company was taking steps to achieve this goal.

In addition to the immediate measures, Fenaka has begun the construction of a 32MW power house in Addu City as a long-term solution to the region’s electricity shortages. The Government is taking steps to expedite the project, which has faced delays.
