The United Kingdom emerged as the leading source market for Maldives tourism in February 2025, surpassing China in monthly arrivals, according to the latest data from Maldives Immigration.
A total of 214,091 tourists visited the country in February, bringing the total number of arrivals for the year so far to 428,954. The UK accounted for 23,210 visitors, edging out China, which recorded 21,928 arrivals. Russia and Italy followed as the third and fourth largest source markets, respectively.
The highest single-day influx of tourists was recorded on February 16, with 9,518 arrivals, marking the busiest day of the year to date.
Despite China losing the top position in February, it remains the overall leading source market for Maldivian tourism in 2025, with more than 60,000 visitors recorded so far, followed by Russia and the UK.
This follows a record-breaking year for Maldivian tourism in 2024, when the country welcomed 2,047,435 tourists — the highest in its 52-year tourism history. This figure represented a 9 per cent increase from 1,878,543 arrivals in 2023, marking the first time the Maldives exceeded the two-million visitor milestone in a single calendar year.
Building on this success, the Government has set ambitious targets for 2025, aiming for a 15 per cent increase in tourist arrivals and a boost in tourism revenue to USD 5 billion.
