Attorney General (AG) Uz Ahmed Usham has stated that the Attorney General's Office met the Supreme Court's deadline and fulfilled all obligations regarding a case seeking to nullify the constitutional amendment that prohibits members of Parliament from switching parties.
Former Parliament Member (MP) of Kendhoo constituency, Ali Hussain, sent a letter to the Supreme Court, which he published on social media X, expressing concerns that the Attorney General had not complied with the court's order and may have acted in contempt. He requested the Court to review the matter and consider appropriate action.
In response, AG Usham rejected the allegations, stating that regardless of the MP’s intentions, his claims misrepresented the situation, as the facts were "clearly visible."
He clarified that the Supreme Court’s order required a substantive response within 10 official working days and that this deadline had not yet passed on 28 February, as Ali Hussain suggested. He further noted that the calculation of official working days follows a standard procedure.
The Attorney General reaffirmed that his office had completed all necessary steps within the court's deadline.
