The Ministry of Cities, Local Government, and Public Works has announced plans to begin clearing drains across Malé City to combat flooding issues.

Cities Minister Adam Shareef Umar shared the initiative in a post on X, stating that the drain cleaning programme will commence this Saturday. The effort aims to ease the challenges residents face due to slow water drainage during heavy rainfall.

According to the Minister, the initiative is part of ongoing Government efforts to reduce the hardships caused by frequent flooding in Malé. To tackle the issue, the Government has also provided the Malé City Council with essential equipment, including modern pumps currently in use for drainage operations.
