State Minister of Cities, Local Government and Public Works, Uz Moosa Fathuhee Adam, criticised the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) for failing to reform the judiciary during their time in power.

Speaking on MMTV's Bodu Khabaru programme Wednesday night, State Minister Fathuhee claimed that while MDP protested during former President Gayoom's administration under the banner of reform, they instead brought corruption and eroded social norms. He argued that MDP viewed courts as obstacles and started democracy on the wrong footing by undermining judicial trust.

State Minister Fathuhee stated that after gaining power in 2008, MDP neglected judicial infrastructure and human resource development. Despite having the first opportunity to implement the constitution's sixth chapter on the justice system, they failed to strengthen courts or build public confidence.

He accused MDP of attempting to bypass the judicial system by holding mock courts in the streets and delivering justice through the President's Office or party activities during their first term. During their second administration, he claimed they manipulated the Supreme Court bench by promoting judges who delivered favourable verdicts.

The State Minister concluded that the current Administration is focused on developing court resources rather than influencing the judiciary.
