The Managing Director of Fenaka Corporation, Major (Retired) Mohamed Najah, has stated that efforts are underway around the clock to resolve electricity issues in Addu City, with their primary objective being to maintain uninterrupted power supply, especially during Ramadan.
Najah, who is presently in Addu, explained that the Government continues implementing various measures to tackle Addu's electricity problems. According to him, the city's generators have gone without maintenance for a considerable period, resulting in significant deterioration.
Najah indicated that all necessary spare parts for generator repairs have arrived in the Maldives after delays due to Chinese New Year celebrations. With all components now available, technicians have begun the repair process.
Their immediate target is to fix five serviceable generators within the next two to three days to establish reliable power supply to Addu. Najah stated that the recent power outages in certain areas resulted from a single generator shutdown, which is also being repaired.
He further revealed that Fenaka is pursuing the acquisition of additional, larger generators under President Dr Mohamed Muizzu's guidance; one such generator is currently en route aboard a vessel at Tuticorin port.
Fenaka aims to implement solutions that would prevent similar issues for the next five years. Najah attributed the current situation to previous neglect and asked for public confidence, acknowledging that repairs will require time.
