The Maldives Police Service has arrested two individuals on suspicion of attempting to smuggle drugs into Shaviyani Milandhoo.

The arrested individuals are Ahmed Dhameer, 37, and Ahmed Ismail, 31, both from Haa Dhaalu Kulhudhuffushi.

Police said the arrests were made during an operation launched after receiving information about people travelling by dinghy from Kulhudhuffushi attempting to smuggle drugs into Milandhoo.

During the joint operation conducted by Milandhoo Police Station and Intelligence on the fifth of this month, the suspects were arrested at Milandhoo harbour. A search revealed 146 rubber packets containing suspected drugs, according to police.

Both individuals were produced before court for a detention hearing, and the court ordered them to be detained for 15 days.

The Milandhoo Police Station is currently investigating the case.
