Foreign Ministry reports on staffing numbers in response to Parliamentary inquiry

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has revealed the number of foreign service and political employees currently working within the Ministry.

The information was disclosed by Foreign Minister Dr Abdulla Khaleel in response to a written inquiry from Mohamed Ibrahim, Member of Parliament for North Galolhu Constituency. The Minister’s response was heard in Parliament on Monday.

According to the figures, as of October 2023, the Foreign Ministry had 137 foreign service employees, including 98 staff at the Ministry headquarters and 39 employees stationed at foreign missions. During the same period, there were 18 political employees at headquarters and 98 in overseas missions, bringing the total to 116 political staff.

As of January 2025, the Foreign Ministry had 139 foreign service employees, with 93 staff at headquarters and 46 working in foreign missions. The number of political employees at headquarters stood at 28, with a total of 132 political staff across the Ministry.
