The Government has appointed Uza Mariyam Sham’aa Ismail as the Registrar of Companies, effective March 10, 2025.

She succeeds Mariyam Visam, who resigned from the position on March 5 following eleven years of service.

The Minister of Economic Development, Mohamed Saeed, officially confirmed Uza Sham’aa’s appointment and extended his congratulations in a statement on X.

Uza Sham’aa brings extensive legal and regulatory expertise to the role. Since 2021, she has served as the Consumer Ombudsman, having previously held the position of Legal Consultant at the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade. Her professional experience includes serving as Director of Legal and Policy Affairs at the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM) and as Registrar of the Supreme Court. She holds a Bachelor of Laws from the University of the West of England, Bristol, which she obtained in 2004.

As Registrar of Companies, Uza Sham’aa will be responsible for ensuring compliance with the Companies Act, overseeing company registrations, approving company names, and monitoring corporate activities. Additionally, she holds the authority to take action against non-compliant entities and, when necessary, to dissolve companies.
