A motion has been submitted to Parliament seeking the removal of Ahmed Imad, the Deputy Governor of the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA).

The motion was presented to Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee by Dhidhdhoo MP Abdul Latheef Mohamed. At a Committee meeting held to discuss the matter, members decided to refer the motion to the Parliament floor for further review.

In his letter to the committee, MP Latheef cited Imad’s failure to fulfil his legal responsibilities during a period of economic difficulties as the reason for his proposed dismissal. The letter also noted that former MMA Governor Ali Hashim was recently removed for similar reasons and argued that the Deputy Governor should be held to the same standard of accountability.

Following discussions, the Committee passed the motion for Imad’s removal, with the majority of members present voting in favour.
