Tech enthusiasts and tourism innovators can now register for the Visit Maldives Hackathon, a 48-hour event aimed at revolutionising the country's tourism sector.

The Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) has launched this initiative alongside key industry partners Dhiraagu, SparkHub LLP, Public Service Media (PSM), Business Centre Corporation (BCC), Ministry of Tourism and Environment, and National Centre for Information Technology (NCIT). The event targets innovative technology-driven solutions to address challenges in the Maldivian tourism industry while promoting sustainability.

Minister of Tourism and Environment Thoriq Ibrahim launched the hackathon on February 27, 2025, at Dhiraagu Head Office. Registration is now open for both local and international participants aged 18 and above.

The initiative aligns with MMPRC's commitment to enhancing sustainable tourism whilst improving traveller experiences and operational efficiency through technology. Minister Thoriq expressed confidence that ideas from the hackathon could transform tourism by enhancing guest experiences, improving industry management, and preserving the environment.

Information sessions will be held on March 13, March 19, and April 7, with proposal submissions due by April 11. After evaluation on April 12, selected proposals will be announced on April 13, and the event will run from April 18-20.

MMPRC's Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director Ibrahim Shiuree emphasised technology's potential to address tourism challenges effectively, noting the organisation's plans for various promotional activities throughout 2025.
