The Cabinet has decided to resume the operations of Agro National Corporation Limited (AgroNat) under the oversight of the Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Welfare.

Previously, the Government had planned to dissolve AgroNat and transfer its activities to the Maldives Industrial Development Free Zone Public Limited (MIDFZ). However, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu later submitted the matter to the Cabinet, which decided to restructure AgroNat as a subsidiary of MIDFZ instead of dissolving it.

MIDFZ, established on January 2, 2024, aims to enhance national productivity and strengthen the economy. Under the revised plan, the Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Welfare will oversee AgroNat’s operations and set clear targets for its development.

The decision is intended to strengthen the agricultural sector, provide better opportunities for farmers to market their produce, and increase revenue from agriculture.
