Maldives Police Service arrested three people in Vilimalé during an anti-drug operation, seizing narcotics and more than MVR 241,000.

According to police, the operation was conducted on March 9. Officers found 57.78 grammes of narcotics in the suspects’ possession during the search.

Authorities also discovered cash believed to have been obtained through drug trafficking. Police reported seizing more than MVR 241,000.

The suspects were identified as Ibrahim Imad (30) from Thaa Gaadhiffushi; Mohamed Simrah (43) from Malé; and Salah Shihab (45) from Gaafu Dhaalu Rathafandhoo.

During their detention hearing, the court remanded Simrah and Shihab for 15 days but ordered Imad’s release. Following Imad’s release, police stated they have requested the Prosecutor General’s Office to appeal the decision.
