Customs seizes MVR 6.7 million worth of drugs

The Maldives Customs Service has intercepted a drug smuggling attempt, seizing narcotics worth MVR 6.7 million.
The drugs, which included methamphetamine, ketamine, and heroin, were being smuggled into the country via sea.
According to Customs, the total weight of the seized drugs was 3.5 kilograms, consisting of 2,138 grams of methamphetamine, 1,086 grams of ketamine, and 310 grams of heroin. The contraband had an estimated street value of MVR 6.7 million.
The drugs were discovered during a search of a consignment that arrived by sea on March 12, 2025. The Maldives Police Service has taken over the investigation of the case, with efforts continuing to combat drug smuggling in the country.
